Police in Gqeberha is urging residents to be on the lookout for aluminum diesel tanks that were stolen in a hijacking on Thursday afternoon, 09 December 2021 in Markman.
It is alleged that at about 15:40, on the mentioned date, a white Hino truck was hijacked by a group of about 10 armed suspects on the N2 off-ramp, Addo Road in Markman.
It is further alleged that as the truck was turning onto the R335 (Addo Road) off-ramp, in the direction of the Markman industrial area, a white VW Polo, a white Toyota Tazz, and another unknown vehicle blocked the road in front of the truck and pointed the driver (37) and his passenger with firearms. The driver was forced to drive to Ikamvelihle after which he and his passenger were forced into the Toyota Tazz and driven off, leaving the truck behind.
The truck was later found abandoned in Old Uitenhage Road. The cargo of 16 pallets of aluminum diesel tanks was stolen. The value of the tanks is not known at this stage. Investigations continue.
