Entrapped driver freed in 4-hour rescue: Ogunjini – KZN
A Mercedes Benz tip truck travelling down a steep and winding road struck a male before it overturned down an embankment in Ogunjini – KZN this afternoon (Thursday).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) R44 Helicopter was conducting aerial patrols at approximately 16:02 when the Pilot In Command & Crew were routed to locate and direct responding Reaction Officers and Medics to the scene.
On arrival, RUSA Members discovered the truck that belongs to the Department Of Transport lying on its side several meters below an embankment. The driver was trapped in the wreckage. It was also established that the truck struck a teenage boy who was expedited to hospital in serious condition.
Medics from RUSA & Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) stabilised the driver and requested assistance from the Ethekwini Fire & Emergency Services. On arrival, Firefighters utilised the Jaws Of Life to extricate the driver whose legs were trapped under the dashboard for approximately four (4) hours.
The injured male was further stabilised before being transported to hospital by ambulance.
