Gauteng: At 05H55 Sunday morning, Netcare 911 responded to a collision on the N17 heading from Johannesburg in the direction of Springs in Dalpark, Brakpan.
Reports indicate that the driver of a light motor vehicle lost control on a straight, slamming into the back of a truck.
When medics arrived on scene, they found the driver, also the only occupant in the vehicle heavily entrapped under the rear of the truck.
On scene was the Ekurhuleni Fire and Rescue Services, SAPS, EMPD and multiple ambulance services.
Rescue crews battled for three hours using hydraulic tools to free the critically injured man, while advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilise him.
Once freed from the wreckage, the man was rushed through to hospital having suffered poly-traumatic injuries.
Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
