As part of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI), program Goodyear South Africa in collaboration with its retail partner Hi-Q donated office furniture to Inxiweni Primary School in Tembisa.
Goodyear South Africa has been in partnership with Inxiweni Primary School since 2019 with one of the flagship projects being a Library which was handed over to the school in 2021.
The office furniture donation was handed over by Richard Fourie, Managing Director: Goodyear South Africa and Sean Harrison, Managing Director: Hi-Q.
Fourie was delighted to hand over the furniture and had a few words to say to learners and educators, “I’m so grateful that we are able to help and to give back to yourselves (Inxiweni Primary School) and to the community around here. We are committed to continuing helping where we can and try to make a difference in your lives as you grow up and make the future of South Africa better and stronger,” he said.
“We took the conscious decision to support Goodyear and the group’s vision, where we invest back into the community where we operate,” said Sean Harrison as he further emphasised Goodyear’s commitment to making a difference in the community. He further highlighted Goodyear’s commitment to helping the greater Tembisa community.
The office furniture donated by Goodyear will be used by educators with the rest being utilised in the administration building.
In accepting the donation, the school representative, Ms. Nothabani Vabaza expressed her appreciation to Goodyear’s Leadership Team. She also appreciated the long-term relationship they have developed with Goodyear, which has now extended to Hi-Q.
Inxiweni Primary School was constructed in 1974 and officially registered in 1976. The school is now 48 years and still well-maintained thanks to the school Principal, Ms. Ruth Tabu, and her team, who works tirelessly together with Educators and the School Governing Body (SGB). There are currently 1460 learners and 41 Educators. The school takes learners from grade R to grade 7 and they are predominantly from the nearby communities and informal settlements. Despite the daily challenges the school is faced with, like overcrowding, Ms. Nothabani shared that the school is the preferred feeder for most High Schools in the area. She attributed this success to the dedication of Educators and disciplined learners.
SGB Chairperson, Sibulele Mtshabe, extended his gratitude to Goodyear and Hi-Q, “I appreciate the partnership that you have developed with our learning institution that will promote positive development in our learners. The support you give to our school makes a better working environment for our educators and a learning environment for our learners. Your donation will make a huge difference.”
