A man, his assistant, and a Tata truck were located on the M4 in La Mercy- KZN following a hijacking on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Tongaat – KZN.
A second truck assistant arrived at Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) offices in Tongaat requesting assistance after he witnessed three suspects driving off with his colleagues in their white Tata truck. The truck was loaded with energy drinks and groceries. Reaction Officers converged on the area and began an extensive search. The truck and both victims were located on the M4.
According to the driver, the gunmen forced him to drive in the direction of La Mercy. As the approached the M4 from Tongaat they asked him to turn right. They were unaware that the road was closed for construction. After they noticed members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) along the damaged road, the hijackers forced the driver to stop when they fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The victims were not injured.
