The members of SAPS in Waterberg District and Illegal Mining Task Team have arrested a 45-year-old man for suspected illegal mining of sand after being found in action loading a river sand in a tipper truck, and another driver of front loader abandoned his truck with keys. The operation was conducted at Mohlabaneng Maroteng village under Mahwelereng policing area, on Friday, 10 November 2023 at around 11:00.
The police confiscated the tipper truck with river sand and front loader truck.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for arresting the suspect and continuing to protect the minerals of this province. “Illegal mining has a detrimental effect on the economy and against the country’s laws. The police must work hard to arrest anyone involved in these illegal activities,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
The suspect will appear before Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 November 2023.
