A sixty four year old man has been airlifted from the scene of a horrific collision on the M7 highway this afternoon, whilst another female motorist has also been left fighting for her life.
Life Response emergency care practitioners arrived on the scene to find absolute carnage after an articulated vehicle had careened across the centre medium colliding with several other light motor vehicles.
Two motorists were found to be mechanically entrapped in the wreckages and the Jaws-of-Life were used to cut them free, whilst advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilize them.
The assistance of the Netcare911 Aeromedical helicopter was summoned to the scene and the male patient was airlifted to Netcare St Anne’s specialist trauma facility, whilst the female was transported rapidly by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further definitive care.
Traffic in the area was severely affected and the local authorities were on scene to assist.
The cause of the incident is unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.
