The Police at Apel in Sekhukhune District have arrested a 37-year-old Zimbabwean national for illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act after he was found loading chrome into tipper truck on Wednesday 31 January 2024.
According to the information, the Police members were conducting Operation Vala Umgodi on Wednesday 31 January 2024. The suspect was arrested for illicit mining activities and mining equipment that were used in the commission of the crime that included one yellow Cat TLB and a white Volvo side tipper truck with a blue trailer fully loaded with stolen chrome, were seized.
In a separate incident. a team of multi-disciplinary forces in Vhembe District have on Thursday 01 February 2024, arrested a total of 15 suspects for various offenses that included possession of suspected stolen precious metals, contravention of the Immigration Act and Road Traffic Act during the execution of Operation Vala Umgodi.
The suspects are expected to appear before various Magistrate’s Court on Friday 02 February, 2024.
