There is just one day to go before South Africa’s inaugural Fleet Safety Awards takes place. While there are numerous competitions similar to this one around the world, this is the first-of-its-kind in southern Africa. The region is more than ready to welcome similar awards which was proven in the enthusiastic response to the Fleet Safety Awards.
The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says the response far exceeded our own expectations. “As the inaugural event, we expected it to take some time for organisations and individuals to appreciate the value of these awards to those as committed to road safety as MasterDrive. Yet, no sooner had the nominations opened than there was a flurry to nominate top fleet managers and organisations.
“In fact, the number of individuals that enthusiastically embraced improved road safety was sobering. After entries closed, it was then up to our esteemed panel of judges to score the information provided and determine the top finalists which was then verified by an auditor.”
As rightly pointed out by one of the presenters, it is a way for all South Africans and corporations to say thank you to those committed to road safety. “When we hand the awards over, we are thanking fleet managers and companies that are doing their best to improve road safety and create safer roads for every South African driver, consequently reducing the alarmingly high number of road fatalities. Over the next few years we expect even bigger and greater achievements from the awards.”
“MasterDrive would also like to thank our partners in this endeavour. It was with their help that we not only exceeded our own expectations but are well on or way to developing the Fleet Safety Awards as a tradition in South African road safety.”
A word from some of the partners
“Road safety lies at the forefront of everything DriveRisk, as a business, does. Partnering with MasterDrive in the Fleet Safety Awards and recognising excellence in this area is completely aligned to our objectives as a business.”
Clay Colegate, Chief Business Development Officer at DriveRisk
“The roads of South Africa have been given the grim title of the worst country to drive in, only second to Thailand. Consequently, we didn’t hesitate to partner with MasterDrive and applaud all participants and finalists in the Fleet Safety Awards.”
Heather de Vos, General Manager of Fleet Solutions at Eqstra
“This initiative of improving road safety in South Africa was a no-brainer for us. We had to get involved. Safety and road safety is a priority for us in product planning.”
Leslie Long, Senior Manager of Hino
“We have elected to participate in the Feet Safety Awards because we are passionate about road safety. Partnering with MasterDrive provides another window of opportunity to connect with fleet managers and drive the concept of road safety.”
Ashely Govender, Technical Manager Tata South Africa
“We elected to participate in the inaugural Fleet Safety Awards as it is a topic very close to our hearts. The awards not only casts a spotlight on improving road safety but recognises those that have achieved in this field.”
Grant Marshbank, CEO of VSC Solutions
“It makes complete sense for Webfleet Solutions to get involved in the Fleet Safety Awards because a large part of what we do is focused on driver safety. Often people forget the role fleet managers and others play in fleet safety and the awards take a holistic view of fleet safety.”
Justin Manson, Sales Director for Webfleet Solutions
Lastly, we express our gratitude to every individual and organisation that played a role in making the Fleet Safety Awards a success. “From our panel of esteemed judges, to our partners that unabatedly share our vision and to the individual fleet managers and corporations that see the value of the Fleet Safety Awards, we express our sincere appreciation. We look forward to awarding the deserving winners on Friday and encourage everyone who believes in road safety to join us,” says Herbert.
