An intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of two males aged 33 and 44 who are suspected to be behind truck hijackings and armed robberies in Johannesburg. The suspects, who were found with two unlicensed firearms loaded with ammunition, were arrested in Johannesburg City Centre on the evening of Thursday, 24 February 2022.
Police have been searching for suspects involved in truck hijackings and robberies in Johannesburg and information led them to a flat in Johannesburg where the two suspects are residing.
A team comprising of members from SAPS Soweto Crime Intelligence and Johannesburg Metro Police Department pounced on the flats in Johannesburg where they found two suspects. Upon searching the suspects and premises, police found two unlicensed firearms and a signal jammer.
Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and a signal jammer. The firearms will be sent for ballistic tests and the suspects will be profiled to establish linkages to other serious and violent crimes. They are expected to appear at Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 February 2022.
