SA National Defence Force confiscates illicit cigarettes valued at R254 731
One South African Tank Regiment from Bloemfontein led by the energetic Officer Commanding, Lieutenant Colonel Heidi Dalton, was busy with waylays operation between Dongola Kop and Mapungubwe National Park when they confiscated illicit cigarettes valued at R254 731.00.
The suspects escaped and fled. At Machete Farm Kaoxa Bush Camp, other members of 1 SA Tank Regiment were reacting to a tip-off from the game Rangers regarding the cigarettes smuggling syndicate, when they followed up on the tip-off, they found and confiscated a Mercedes Benz and a Mitsubishi bakkie fully loaded with illicit cigarettes.
The suspects escaped arrest but the South African National Defence Force members called in their counterparts from the South African Police Services to assist with the fingerprints for further investigations.
Both vehicles were towed to the SA Police Service 13 Grounds.
