The prompt action of members of the South African Police Service in Nebo and Dennilton under Sekhukhune District, led to the arrest of two of the suspects who had robbed two bakery trucks in separate incidents that took place yesterday, 17 March 2023.
During the incident that took place in Dennilton, one suspect was arrested after the suspect and his accomplice accosted a bakery truck at Moteti, Mmotwaneng village and robbed victims of cellphones and cash.
Two suspects, one armed with a firearm, forced the driver and his crew into the back of the truck and drove off. The victims managed to escape after they jumped out of the moving truck and requested assistance from the community. Police were alerted about the incident and swiftly responded. The suspect was arrested with assistance from the community members. During the arrest, the victims’ cellphones and truck, the firearm with 12 live rounds of ammunition that was used during the commission of the crime, were recovered. The second suspect managed to evade arrest after he fled on foot.
In another similar incident that took place in Nebo policing precinct, a 28-year-old male suspect was arrested at Ga-Moloi village after the suspect and his accomplice robbed a bakery truck at gunpoint. The suspects robbed the driver and his crew of cellphones, cash and one firearm and ammunition.
Police were alerted and a search operation was immediately conducted led by the Station Commander of SAPS Nebo. One suspect was arrested while the other escaped on foot. Police recovered the robbed firearm and ammunition, suspect’s firearm and ammunition, an airgun as well as a 9mm toy gun.
The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded these teams of members for the sterling job and the community members for their continued support in the fight against crime.
The two suspects are expected to appear before Siyabuswa and Nebo Magistrate’s Courts on Monday 20 March 2023 facing charges of hijacking, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen properties and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
A manhunt for the remaining suspects in both incidents is underway. Anyone with information should contact the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest police station or send information through MySAPS App.
