TATA International Africa recently handed over much-needed funding to Operation Smile South Africa (OSSA) at an event that was held virtually.
Operation Smile South Africa provides education and funding for repair surgeries for cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial abnormalities. TATA’s relationship with the organisation dates back to 2015 during which time donations have exceeded half a million rand, and at least 12 children per year have been supported with operations at no cost to their families.
“A smile is one of the most emotive displays we can put out to the world around us. It can say and communicate so much. By addressing the challenges these children face at a young age, we can help give them the opportunity to grow into the best versions of themselves by putting the smile back on their faces,” says Len Brand, CEO of TATA International Africa.
“After surgery, many mothers say the biggest change in their life is that they can go out in public with their child and their child has the confidence to be like other children. Now, more than ever, we must rely on each other’s kindness, compassion, and empathy. We’re building on our expertise in delivering cleft care in resource-limited settings as well as our history of improving the health and dignity of those we serve,” Ronel Visagie, Marketing, and Support Coordinator.
“Our donations are a token of our ongoing support for the work the organisation does. We believe in the future of our children and through this support, we have faith that we can assist in making joy visible through their smiles. We are very proud to be in the position to support such a wonderful and life-enhancing programme,” says Brand.
