Three killed in a collision involving multiple vehicles and trucks on the N3 near Pietermaritzburg

Just after 15:20 today ALS Paramedics responded to a fatal multiple vehicle and truck collision on the N3 Durban Bound at the bottom of Town Hill in the Pietermaritzburg area.

On arrival Paramedics found carnage as they found that two trucks and a vehicle had collided before the two trucks left the road and came to rest down an embankment. Paramedics set up a triage system and started assessing the occupants.

At this stage we can confirm that three males have been confirmed deceased on scene by Paramedics.

One person is still missing and the SAPS Search and Rescue teams are searching the wreckage. One person with minor injuries has been treated and transported to Hospital.

There is a severe traffic backlog on the N3 heading into Pietermaritzburg and this scene will be active for some time so we urge motorists to avoid this area at all costs.

SAPS and RTI are in attendance and will be investigating the cause of this horrific crash.
