A man and a 6-year-old boy were killed, and a mother and one-year-old boy were injured this afternoon when a bakkie and truck collided on the R59 near the Voortrekker offramp in Vereeniging.
ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on the scene to find the wrecked bakkie on the side of the road against the barriers. A man was lying on the bonnet of the bakkie while the 6-year-old boy was lying in front of the vehicle. The mother and other child were found walking around on the scene.
Medics assessed the patients and found that the six-year-old had already succumbed to his numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for him, and he was declared dead. The man was in critical condition while the woman and one year old escaped with minor injuries.
Medics treated the patients and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care.
Unfortunately, the critically injured man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
