Around 16.30 this afternoon, S.T.A.R.T received an urgent call for help from a resident in the Cliffdale area who had witnessed a truck lose control, smashing through a fence line and into her neighbours’ house. The S.T.A.R.T controllers acted immediately and dispatched S.T.A.R.T Partner Netcare911 Rescue 2, the Fire Department and Netcare 911 and S.T.A.R.T medical teams to the incident. On arrival, teams found that a truck had lost control veering off the dirt road, rolling down an embankment in front of the house and then rolling back into the garage damaging the house and two parked vehicles.
Teams found that the driver of the truck was entrapped. The driver had to be extracted using specialised hydraulic equipment. After the driver was rescued, he was found to have sustained moderate injuries. Teams stabilised and treated him on the scene before being transported by Netcare911 to a nearby medical facility for further assessment and care.
Fortunately, at the time of the incident, the family had moved out of the house and were all standing outside due to load shedding. Loadshedding added some extra challenges with communication and residents had to run up a steep hill to make contact with emergency services.
The scene was left in the care of the Fire department while the truck was recovered.
