Truck driver injured in a shooting incident in Buffelsdraai
A 35-year-old man was shot shortly after collecting plastic from scavengers at the Buffeldraai Landfill Site in Buffelsdraai – KZN.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the shooting. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered a Fuso truck stationary on the roadside. Three men flagged down RUSA Members and stated that they were passengers in the vehicle. They further stated that their driver had been shot and fled into a nearby bush.
RUSA Members entered the bush and located the driver. He sustained a gunshot wound to his left foot. It was established that he and his colleagues had left the landfill site after uplifting sacks of plastic collected by scavengers when a lone gunman opened fire on the truck. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction. The vehicle was shot five times.
The injured male was transported to hospital for medical intervention.
